What a fantastic number day Year 1 had. We have been number detectives, we solved number problems and followed the clues to discover the message. We have also being playing lots of games to practise and consolidate our knowledge of number bonds to 10 and stretch it to number bonds to 20.

Today in maths, Year 1 we were comparing numbers up to 20. We represented the numbers and used the correct symbols and mathematical language to explain our findings.

Year 1 was finding the number bonds within 10 using systematic approach. We have used mathematical equipment and discussed the pattern we have noticed.

Today, in year 1 we were learning to compare numbers using symbols <, > and =. We worked hard to use the correct vocabulary; greater than, less than and equal to. We used cubes and lolly sticks to show our working.

Year 1 have been exploring two digit numbers and how they are made. We created ‘wanted’ posters, describing the numbers.

Year 1 started looking at money. We looked at the shape, colour and value of each coin to help us recognise and name them. We also compared the values of the coins.

Over the past two weeks, year 1 have been measuring length, mass and capacity. We’ve used non-standard measures such as cubes, paper clips and beads to measure length, compared mass using balance scales and explored how to measure capacity using different units of measure such as cups and teaspoons.
