The love of reading is one of the most important life ‘skills/lessons’ we can foster in our students. A book has the ability to transport us to another place and let us experience a reality unlike our own. It helps us develop the ability to empathize with others and gives us the opportunity to access experiences we might not otherwise have. On a more practical level, practicing reading makes the child more proficient at the skill thereby allowing the child access to more advanced resources and a greater chance of success across all learning areas.

There always has to be reading with intention or meaning, even if the intention is to foster the love of reading. A purpose behind the task. Whether it is practicing the proper phonetic pronunciation or reading to grasp a new concept or knowledge on a subject, reading with meaning is essential. That is why Serial Mash includes a host of resources along with the books. Each book chapter is complemented by a host of printable resources for the whole class, group or individual use. Comprehension quizzes, grammar worksheets, sequencing activities, open-ended questions and extended writing tasks are provided – all in one place.
There are stories about almost everything – from volcanoes and community kitchens to magical creatures and children who gain strange powers. Access Serial mash on Purplemash.
