This week in maths, year 5 have been learning about cubed numbers. We found it helpful to use multi-link cubes to visualise these numbers.

This week in maths children have looked at numbers to 10 million. We have used place value grids, part whole models and bar models. We have thought about how we can partition each number alongside practising reading the numbers and knowing the value of each digit. The children have worked really hard and we are

In maths, Year 5 have been looking at translating shapes-moving them accurately to a different position on a grid. The children have also used their knowledge of coordinates in topic to understand more about the area of the city impacted by the Blitz bombings.

This week in maths we have been drawing angles using a protractor. To build up our confidence (because we found this quite tricky!) we enjoyed drawing angles in whiteboard pen on our tables- don’t tell Mrs Allen! 🤫

In Year 5, before Easter we looked at converting fractions, decimals and percentages. We used our counters, beads and base 10 to support us. As a recap for our learning, we have also been orienteering this morning about our school site which the children have thoroughly enjoyed.

This week we have been looking at tenths, hundredths and thousandths. We have used place value charts and counters so we can represent these numbers and understand that we can exchange 10 hundredths for 1 tenth and 10 thousandths for 1 hundredth.We then compared these numbers and could see the value of each digit clearly.
