Year 3: Lunt Fort

Year 3 pupils embarked on an exciting adventure to the Lunt Roman Fort in Baginton, Coventry. Armed with curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, they stepped back in time to discover the fascinating world of ancient Rome.

Learning Like Roman Soldiers

Our young historians were greeted by Rufus, an expert guide who brought history to life. Here’s what they experienced:

  1. Facts Galore: The children soaked up new facts about the Romans—their customs, architecture, and daily life. Why was the fort built? How did the Roman Legion operate? These questions were answered as they explored the ancient ruins.
  2. Marching in Formation: Just like Roman soldiers, they marched in formation, feeling the weight of their imaginary armor. Shields raised, they practiced battle drills and combat techniques. Rufus’s knowledge was impressive, and the children hung on to every word.
  3. Swordplay and Shield Defence: Rufus demonstrated how to wield swords and shields. The pupils even had to defend themselves against imaginary spear attacks! Their eyes sparkled with excitement as they played their part in this historical re-enactment.

Our Year 3 pupils were a credit to our school. Their behaviour was exemplary, and their enthusiasm infectious. As they left the fort, their heads were filled with stories of Roman conquests, emperors, and legacies.

The Lunt Roman Fort left an indelible mark on our young learners. They returned to school with newfound knowledge, a sense of adventure, and memories that will last a lifetime. – https://www.luntromanfort.org/
